Unlike carbohydrates, lipids and proteins, minerals are inorganic substances, meaning they cannot be produced by living things.

Most of it is concentrated in the bones. Among the best known are calcium, phosphorus, potassium, sulfur, sodium, magnesium, iron, copper, zinc, selenium, chromium, etc.

These inorganic substances have very important functions in the body and lack of them can lead to health imbalances. However, there are some minerals, such as aluminum and boron, that may be present in the body without any function.

Main functions of mineral salts:

Minerals play a very important role in our body.

- They act as important components in the formation and maintenance of the bones of the human body (mainly calcium phosphates);

- Through its action that enzymatic reactions are regulated;

- Participate in the composition of some organic molecules;

As the body is unable to produce minerals, they must be ingested through a diet that provides adequate amounts of these substances. If there is excess, it will be eliminated through feces and urine.

Sulfur (S) - in meat, fish, eggs, beans, cabbage, broccoli, onion, garlic, wheat germ, etc.

Sodium (Na) - is found in table salt, seaweed, etc.

Magnesium (Mg) - Found in vegetables, apples, figs, walnuts, soybeans, wheat germ, oats, etc.

Iron (Fe) - Found in general meats, liver, egg yolk, oats, beans, asparagus, etc.

Copper (Cu) - Found in liver, whole wheat, peas, peanuts, walnuts, etc.

Zinc (Zn) - meat in general, eggs, fish, wheat germ, Brazil nuts, peas, etc.

Selenium (Se) - tomatoes, corn and other cereals.

Chrome (Cr) - meat, seafood, cereals, etc.
