What they are (definition)

Also known as magnoliopsides, dicotyledons are plants (angiosperms) that have two or more cotyledons in the seed. Cotyledons are the initial leaves of plant embryos.

Main characteristics of dicotyledons:

- Existence of two or more cotyledons in the seed.

- Presence of reticulated ribs on the leaves.

- Presence of petiole (part that connects the stem to the limb) on the leaf.

- Presence of tetramer flowers (4 elements) or pentamers (5 elements).

- Fruits have 4 or 5 stores (or multiple)

- The internal structure of the stem is composed of vascular bundles, distributed around a central cylinder.

- The root system is composed of axial or pivoting roots (main root from which lateral roots come out).
