The lungs are organs that are part of the respiratory system of humans. Each human being has a pair of lungs.


Gas exchanges between the blood and the environment are performed by the lungs. These gas exchanges occur in the pulmonary alveoli. In this process oxygen enters the hemoglobin of the blood and the consequent formation of oxyhemoglobin occurs. On the other hand, carbon dioxide (carbon dioxide) is released.
